Cop26: yes to Boga, no to electric cars

From the COP 26 Climate Conference, Italy’s very clear-cut positions stood out on topics of great impact for the world of energy and
mobility: we joined – but only as a friend, the slightest step – to the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (Boga), promoted by Denmark and
Costa Rica, which aims at the gradual elimination of oil and gas production.

The announcement from Glasgow by Minister Cingolani stated:
Italy is already beyond that. We have clear ideas, a great plan for renewable energy with 70 billion watts produced in the next 9 years
with the plan to reach 2030 with 70% of clean electricity But the Bel Paese – like many other car manufacturers such as Germany, Japan,
the United States and China – is not on the list of 22 countries who signed Route Zero agreement, which provides that between 2035
and 2040 all new vehicles sold will be electric at least in the main markets. There were also numerous defections among the car manufacturers
and only Volvo, Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, the Chinese BYD and Jaguar Land Rover have signed the agreement. Minister Giorgetti
stated: We must face the ecological transition with a technologically neutral approach: decarbonisation cannot become synonymous of
electric. The risk is to make a path that must be rational become ideological.
