From June 12th through August 31, 2017 the National Energy Strategy 2017 (ENS) is in session and studying the energetic scenarios from now until 2030.

Although renewable energy and energy-efficiency are the main objectives, the centrality of petroleum and gas products is confirmed, for sure until 2030, but possibly also later on in time, given that the transition to sustainable energy will be progressive. Regarding the development of renewable energies, Italy has already reached its own 17% target with a 17.5% penetration in overall consumption in 2015. ENS’s 27% target should be met in 2030, when in the transportation sector would go from the 6.4% registered in 2015 to 17-19% in 2030. Petrol is still a main player in the energy area as also by 2030 it will remain indispensable to ensure over three-quarters of vehicle’s supplied power. At the meeting there has been a complaint regarding the role of clean gases as there’s a lack of references to LPG and methane vehicles. As of today, their market share covers more than 8% of the total market with more than 3 million vehicles, whether registered with a gas implant or with a gas implant installed after registration, as pointed out by the Consortium Ecogas, who participated in the consultation. This is a percentage share that can help improve energy savings and environmental performance.
